OEKO-TEX® Partners with TextileGenesis to Digitize Traceability for Organic Cotton
Organic Cotton’s Rising Role in Sustainable Textiles
Consumers and regulators demand clear, sustainable supply chains. Organic cotton takes a key role in global textiles. OEKO-TEX® certifies organic cotton. Its ORGANIC COTTON certification grew by 381% in one year, ending in 2025. ## Addressing Fraud with Digital Innovation
OEKO-TEX® fights fraud with a new system. It teams with TextileGenesis—a Lectra company—to digitize Transaction Certificates for organic cotton. The process blends OEKO-TEX®’s trusted steps with TextileGenesis’ secure, digital methods. This system replaces paper with a single, tamper-proof tool.
Fibercoin™ Technology: A Digital Chain of Custody
TextileGenesis uses Fibercoin™ technology. Here, each cotton shipment gets a unique digital token. The token keeps the link from the fiber stage to finished products. It also cuts down on extra work for ginners, spinners, manufacturers, and brands.
Enhancing Certification Integrity and Efficiency
Dr. Alfred J. Beerli, CEO of OEKO-TEX®, calls the digital move strategic. He says, “Secure and clear data makes our certification work better and grow faster—especially for organic cotton.” This project builds on in-house GMO testing and fits into a wider digital plan. There are plans to update more certifications soon.
Successful Pilot Validates Industry Readiness
In early 2025, a pilot in India and Bangladesh traced organic cotton chains. Eleven actants joined, 24 certificates were checked, and 19 transactions were made. Feedback praised clear, simple steps and less paperwork. Companies like KKP Spinning Mills Pvt. Ltd. and Milan Ginning Pressing Limited saw more trust and strong compliance.
Future Outlook: Scalable Digital Certification
The pilot’s success paves the way forward. OEKO-TEX® and TextileGenesis plan to extend digital Transaction Certificates across wider supply chains. Dr. Beerli adds, “Real-time clarity and easy data sharing are essential as we move forward.” Their goal is to lead with certification that is ready for the future.
