The Role of Farmers’ Green Values in Promoting Green Innovation and Technology Adoption in Agriculture: Insights from China’s Grain Green Production

Background and Importance

Agriculture is crucial. It gives many people a living and adds to environmental problems like climate change. In China, agriculture produces about 35% of greenhouse emissions. This fact shows the need for green farming. The Grain for Green Project works to restore nature by stopping soil loss and healing the land. Success here depends on green innovation and the use of new technology. Farmers’ green values build the link between nature care and practical actions.

Study Objective and Theoretical Framework

This study uses the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology. It checks how farmers’ green values push green innovation. It also tests if these values help in adopting green technology for grain production. In addition, the work looks at whether green innovative intention connects green values to tech use. The study also asks if a farmer’s health awareness changes this link.

Methodology

• Sample: 303 Chinese grain farmers
• Data Collection: Structured questionnaire using convenience sampling
• Analytical Tool: Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with Smart PLS

Key Findings

  1. Farmers with strong green values show higher green innovative intention and a better chance to use green technologies.
  2. Green innovative intention helps to link green values and technology use.
  3. Health consciousness makes the link between green values and green innovative intention stronger. Still, it does not change the connection to technology adoption.

Practical and Theoretical Implications

For Policy and Practice:
Green farming programs should build and support green values among farmers. When farmers care for the environment, they are more likely to try new, cleaner methods and tech.

For Research:
This study shows clear evidence that farmers’ values and tech use are connected in sustainable farming. It also points out that while health awareness boosts green ideas, other factors play a role in making changes.

Conclusion

The study confirms that green values in farmers are a key part of making agriculture greener. These values lead to better innovation and more green technology use in China’s Grain for Green Project. By boosting green values and managing health concerns, stakeholders can help move farming toward a more sustainable future. This move can ease climate change and improve food safety.

This study uses clear dependency links between ideas. Each idea connects closely to the next. This structure helps the reader follow the logic easily and supports sustainable farming policies and practices.
