Đồng Nai Advances Branded and Sustainable Agriculture to Boost Domestic Sales and Exports

Date: October 30, 2025
Source: Vietnam Law & Legal Forum Magazine

Overview

Đồng Nai Province in Southeast Vietnam is intensifying efforts to develop branded agricultural products for both domestic consumption and international export. The provincial strategy centers on sustainable agriculture, concentrated farming areas, and compliance with national and international standards, notably through the “One Commune – One Product” (OCOP) programme.

Key Agricultural Products and Branding Initiatives

  • Cashew: Đồng Nai leads Vietnam with over 180,000 hectares dedicated to cashew—the country’s largest cashew plantation. The province supports associated processing enterprises that observe rigorous international standards, contributing significantly to exports. By 2025, many cashew-based products have achieved national five-star OCOP certification; the Hoàng Anh Co-operative in Bình Phước Ward exemplifies brand innovation with products like cashew nut cakes (four-star OCOP) and cashew-derived beverages.
  • Other crops: The province cultivates key industrial crops such as rubber, coffee, and pepper, alongside five major fruit varieties: mango, durian, banana, grapefruit, and jackfruit. Pepper production includes certified clean-growing areas under VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, aiding brand recognition in domestic and export markets.

OCOP Programme Impact

Đồng Nai features 496 OCOP-certified products, predominantly cashew-related, enhancing product quality and brand value. A standout example includes Tam An Pharmaceutical Company Limited’s medicinal products—Phúc Hưng Long Essential and Premium—both earning five-star OCOP status and expanding reach to China and the Czech Republic.

Market Promotion and Support

  • The province actively promotes brand awareness via marketing events, such as the July 2025 livestream introducing Tân Triều grapefruit, benefiting local farmers.
  • The Farmers Association facilitates cooperation among stakeholders through seminars linking production with promotion strategies.
  • Local tourism and hospitality sectors, including Đồng Nai Hotel, integrate OCOP products into their offerings to increase visibility and consumption.

Sustainability and Collaboration Efforts

Đồng Nai is advancing sustainable farming models by:

  • Implementing the “four-party” linkage among farmers, enterprises, scientists, and the State.
  • Applying modern science and technology in preservation, processing, and traceability.
  • Encouraging concentrated farming areas to improve export competitiveness and sustainable development.

Leadership Perspectives

Nguyễn Thị Hoàng, Deputy Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee, affirmed cashew as a strategic product that will maintain Đồng Nai’s position as Vietnam’s “cashew capital.” Additionally, Nguyễn Hữu Nguyên, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers’ Association, emphasized the cooperative model’s critical role in expanding market access and reinforcing sustainable agricultural development.

Conclusion

Đồng Nai’s approach to branded, sustainable agriculture—anchored in the OCOP programme, stakeholder collaboration, and market-oriented innovations—is fostering a resilient agricultural sector. Their model exemplifies how focused brand development paired with sustainability can elevate local products to national and international prominence.
