Haleon’s Commitment to Sustainable Packaging and Decarbonised Healthcare Supply Chain
Haleon is a global healthcare company with brands like Sensodyne, Centrum, and Panadol. It embeds sustainability as part of its mission. The company aims to improve global health outcomes in a careful and responsible way.
Sustainability Recognition and Leadership
Haleon ranks #34 in Sustainability Magazine’s Top 250 Sustainability Companies for 2025. Chris Low, the head of Sustainability, Procurement and Packaging, drives this progress. He credits innovative sustainable work, climate action in each supply link, and a loyal workforce for this achievement.
Dual-Pillar Sustainability Strategy
Haleon uses two clear ideas:
- Health Inclusivity: The company makes everyday health easy to reach.
- Environmental Responsibility: It lowers its footprint with strong climate goals.
Carbon Emission Reduction Targets
Haleon sets clear carbon targets. It will hit net zero emissions across its whole chain by 2040. It wants to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 100% by 2030 from a 2020 baseline (50% is already cut by 2024). It aims to lower Scope 3 emissions by 42% by 2030 from 2022 levels. The plan includes a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement for a large European solar farm, a shift to renewable energy, and the electrification of heat production.
Decarbonising the Healthcare Supply Chain
Haleon goes past its own work by joining with suppliers. It helps them use renewable energy. It pushes the use of cleaner fuels and carbon offsets. It redesigns products to cut carbon-heavy materials and packaging. This work builds a supply chain that fits healthcare needs and stays sustainable.
Advancing Recycle-Ready Packaging
Haleon cuts packaging waste with clear targets. The company will reduce new petroleum-based plastic by 10% by 2025 and 33% by 2030 (from 2022 levels). It shifts to recycled plastics and bio-resins. All packaging will be recycle-ready by 2025 and fully recyclable or reusable by 2030. It will remove problematic plastics like PVC, use one-material designs, and choose easily recycled options. It also commits to a deforestation-free paper supply chain by 2030, sourcing all paper from recycled or verified sustainable materials. Note that paper makes up about half its packaging footprint.
Leadership Perspective
Brian McNamara, CEO, shares Haleon’s view:
“As a leading global player in consumer health, Haleon recognises social and environmental barriers to better health. We aim to empower people with our expertise and products while positively impacting the planet.”
Haleon’s approach shows a full and clear plan. The steps mix climate action with every stage of healthcare products. They build packaging and supply links that work with a circular economy. These small, close links between ideas help everyone understand the fight for a healthier, more sustainable future.
