Bigger Focus on Sustainable Products at Metstrade 2025

Metstrade 2025, held from 18-20 November at RAI Amsterdam, is set to be the largest edition yet, featuring nearly 1,700 exhibitors and a record number of innovative products. The event places a strong emphasis on sustainability across the global leisure marine industry.

Sustainability Across the Entire Show

For the first time in Metstrade’s history, sustainable innovations will be spread across all 13 halls of the venue. Exhibits will cover a broad spectrum including boat building materials, propulsion and engine systems, electronics, decking, rigging, coatings, paints, maintenance products, life-saving equipment, fuel systems, filtration, accessories, fittings, and marina infrastructure.

The dominant theme throughout the event is innovation with a clear focus on reducing environmental impact.

Highlighted Sustainable Innovations

Foiling Technology

The Foiling Technology Zone will demonstrate how foiling—initially developed for racing—improves fuel efficiency and performance in recreational boats and superyachts alike. The technology’s application in larger yachts will also be explored on the Superyacht Stage.

Next Gen Zone

Located in Hall 13, the Next Gen Zone showcases pioneering companies offering practical, eco-friendly solutions. Components include:

  • Sustainable Innovation Hub: Co-hosted by World Sailing and The Sustainability Toolbox, this hub emphasizes waste repurposing, recycling, and circular economy initiatives. Visitors can engage with case studies, participate in a ‘Product Circularity’ survey, and access free sustainability resources.

  • Royal 3D: Demonstrating advanced 3D printing techniques using recycled thermoplastics and repurposed wood, Royal 3D created the environmentally conscious DAME Design Awards trophy, symbolizing maritime freedom and responsibility.

  • Next Generation Propulsion Showcase: In partnership with the International Electric Maritime Association (IEMA), this expanded showcase highlights electric, hybrid, alternative fuel, and zero-emission propulsion technologies focused on greener boating.

Panel Discussions by IEMA

IEMA hosts two notable panel sessions:

  • The role of data in advancing sustainability in leisure marine decision-making.
  • “Silence and Sensation,” exploring how reductions in noise and vibration improve onboard comfort and market appeal.

Superyacht Sustainability Route

Metstrade continues to collaborate with the Water Revolution Foundation for the fourth year running to feature the Superyacht Sustainability Route. This curated trail spotlights third-party Life Cycle Assessed (LCA) solutions aimed at enhancing efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and promoting corporate social responsibility in the superyacht sector.

Marine Impact Lab: Advancing Collective Sustainability

On 17 November, the Marine Impact Lab workshop will bring together experts from organizations including ICOMIA, World Sailing, and 11th Hour Racing. Speakers like Will Hopes (BAR Technologies) and Alessandro Stagni (Northern Lights Composites) will discuss challenges and innovations surrounding circular materials and sustainable design, fostering collaboration for measurable environmental progress.

Metstrade’s Commitment Beyond Products

Beyond showcasing innovations, Metstrade is actively implementing sustainable practices such as reducing single-use plastics, minimizing food waste, and promoting eco-friendly stand designs. The introduction of the ‘Metstrain’—a dedicated Eurostar carriage for event attendees traveling from London to Amsterdam—demonstrates a commitment to sustainable travel.

Conclusion

Metstrade 2025 reinforces its position as a pivotal global platform for the leisure marine industry by advancing sustainability, innovation, and collaboration. With expanded content for both the superyacht and broader boating sectors, the event provides critical opportunities to connect, learn, and drive the marine industry towards a greener future.
