Focusing on Products to Create Sustainable Competitive Advantages: Insights from Vietnam’s Minister of Science and Technology
Priority on Product-Centric Strategies for Vietnamese Enterprises
In a talk with CMC Technology Group leaders, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung stressed that Vietnamese companies must focus on developing products. He said products form the heart of every firm’s strength. He urged firms to own every step—from design and production to market delivery and after-sales care. This way, teams keep each word and idea linked closely for clear steps in action.
Aligning Business Strategies with National Goals
Minister Nguyen set a clear national goal: reach high-income status by 2045. He named tasks such as building digital tools, improving urban life, boosting public services, and pushing science and tech forward. He called on businesses to link their plans with these aims. He warned against copying others and instead urged a unique, clear path. Each idea connects directly to the goal.
From Technology to Commercialization: Bridging the Gap
He noted that many firms invest in research but do not change ideas into products that people buy. He explained that strong ideas need clear steps to become marketable products. For CMC’s AI work, he advised targeting specific issues rather than creating a broad, all-in-one tool. This focus keeps each part of the idea close and easy to grasp.
Outsourcing Is Not a Long-Term Strategic Foundation
He observed that outsourcing brings quick revenue but does not build long-term strength. While praising CMC Global’s move to become an AI Experience (AIX) service provider, he stressed that true change comes only with full commitment. Short links in strategy will not hold over time.
Sector Focus: AI and Semiconductors
When asked about choosing AI or semiconductors, he said that strong resolve matters more than the choice itself. For a company like CMC, AI makes sense when it has clear plans for data, products, and reaching the market. In semiconductors, starting with focused areas such as chip design, IP, testing, and IoT devices is wiser than taking on vast projects. He reminded us that AI and semiconductors work together as partners: AI needs chips, and chips grow through AI improvements.
Discipline and Culture as Pillars of Innovation
He stressed that discipline supports creativity rather than stops it. A disciplined culture helps ideas and work flow clearly. He urged teams to keep learning, debate ideas openly, and seek outside feedback. This clear, linked approach builds strength and endurance in business.
Conclusion
Minister Nguyen Manh Hung calls on Vietnamese firms to:
• Focus on clear product quality and value as a core strength.
• Link business plans with key national goals.
• Avoid relying too much on short-term outsourcing.
• Commit fully to sectors like AI and semiconductors with clear plans.
• Build a culture of discipline, innovation, and ongoing learning.
This product-focused, clear-cut method helps Vietnamese companies thrive in a global market and supports the nation’s steady progress.
