State-Level Distribution of Sustainable Hygiene Products to Commence on January 20, 2026
Kerala is set to launch a comprehensive eco-friendly menstrual hygiene initiative on January 20, 2026, spearheaded by Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal. This state-wide program, aligned with the Haritha Keralam Mission’s environmental goals, will distribute 169,000 menstrual cups and install sanitary napkin incinerators in select educational institutions.
Key Highlights:
- Launch Event: Scheduled at Muttara Government Higher Secondary & Vocational Higher Secondary School, Veliyam; presided by district panchayat president R. Lathadevi.
- Target Venues: 322 selected schools and colleges, focusing on female student populations, plus Kudumbashree neighborhood groups within 152 local self-government institutions engaged in the ‘Net Zero Carbon Kerala through People’ campaign.
- Sustainable Products: Distribution of eco-friendly menstrual cups as a reusable alternative to disposable sanitary products.
- Waste Management: Installation of scientifically engineered incinerators for hygienic and safe disposal at educational institutions to mitigate environmental harm.
- Implementation Partners: The initiative is conducted in collaboration with HLL Lifecare, funded through the Kerala State Budget 2025-26.
