Agri-Food Innovation Fund Opens for Northern Ontario Applicants
Northern Ontario’s agri-food producers now have the opportunity to apply for funding through the Sustainable New Agri-Food Products and Productivity (SNAPP) program to support projects that foster innovation, improve productivity, and encourage clean technology adoption.
Key Details of the SNAPP Program:
- Application Period: Open until March 13, 2026.
- Funding Source: Federal government through FedNor.
- Funding Amounts:
- Individual producers can receive up to $15,000, covering 50% of project costs. This is a $5,000 increase from previous years.
- Collaborations involving three or more businesses can access up to $25,000 at a 50% cost-share.
Eligible Project Streams:
- Development of new products that offer competitive advantages.
- Implementation of innovative technologies or processes to enhance productivity.
- Adoption of clean technology to improve environmental performance.
Background:
Launched in 2014 as a pilot, the SNAPP program aims to assist small agri-food operations in Northern Ontario in creating new and value-added products. Administered by the Rural Agri-Innovation Network in Sault Ste. Marie, SNAPP received a renewed three-year funding commitment in 2023, ensuring ongoing support for agri-food innovation in the region.
