OEKO-TEX Partners with TextileGenesis to Digitize Organic Cotton Traceability

OEKO-TEX certifies textiles. It partners with TextileGenesis, a Lectra company. They work together to add digital steps in tracking organic cotton. They link each step directly to the next. This new system helps stop fraud and shows clear sustainability. Organic cotton certification grew by 381% by the end of 2025. ### Key Highlights of the Partnership

  • Digital Chain of Custody:
TextileGenesis uses its Fibercoin token technology. Each shipment of certified cotton gets one unique digital token. This token stays close to each shipment. It replaces the old paper Transaction Certificates. The result is a secure and tamper-resistant link. The connection goes from ginners to manufacturers to brands.

  • Fraud Prevention and Efficiency:
The system adds a direct check to stop fraud. It cuts down extra work and makes chain tracking trustworthy. Its close word-to-word links support every step.

  • Integration with Existing Testing Systems:
OEKO-TEX runs GMO tests in 17 labs. These tests link directly to the digital platform. Together they ensure that organic standards hold. The raw fiber and finished products stay connected.

  • Successful Pilot and Industry Acceptance:
A pilot ran from March to August 2025. It involved 11 actors in India and Bangladesh. The pilot processed 24 certificates in 19 transactions. Each transaction linked its parts closely. Participants noted better compliance, trust, and easier management of transactions.

Strategic Importance and Future Outlook

OEKO-TEX CEO Dr. Alfred J. Beerli says this step is key. The digital certificate makes certification scalable and secure. The pilot is set to grow. The system may soon cover more certifications and product groups.

In the future, fast links and clear word pairs will keep trust strong. OEKO-TEX and TextileGenesis plan to widen the platform. Their direct connections set up sustainable, future-ready textile certifications.
