OEKO-TEX Partners with TextileGenesis to Digitize Organic Cotton Traceability
Driving Digital Transformation in Organic Cotton Certification
OEKO-TEX is a global certification body. It partners with TextileGenesis, a Lectra company. Both work to digitize Transaction Certificates for organic cotton. Certification surged by 381% year-over-year by the end of 2025. This growth shows that industry and consumers now demand verified, sustainable textiles.
Leveraging Fibercoin Technology for Secure Traceability
TextileGenesis uses a new token system called Fibercoin. Each shipment of organic cotton gets a unique digital token. The token links the physical shipment to a digital record. This method makes a secure digital chain of custody. It replaces old paper certificates and stops fraud. It also improves supply chain transparency.
Enhancing Efficiency & Credibility Across Supply Chains
This digital system saves time for ginners and spinners. It helps manufacturers and brands too. Certification data and physical movements now live on one tamper-proof platform. OEKO-TEX adds strong GMO tests in its 17 global institutes. These tests keep organic standards high at both fibre and yarn stages.
Successful Pilot Across India and Bangladesh
A pilot ran from March to August 2025. It tested the system with 11 supply chain partners in India and Bangladesh. The trial added 24 digital certificates during 19 transactions. Partners like KKP Spinning Mills and Milan Ginning Pressing noted better traceability, efficiency, and trust. Feedback praised the ease of use, training, and support.
Strategic Milestone in OEKO-TEX’s Digital Roadmap
CEO Dr. Alfred J. Beerli calls the project a crucial step. He sees a future of data-driven certification systems that scale. He believes this system will boost integrity for organic cotton. His plan is to extend digital certification to other OEKO-TEX products.
Future Outlook: Industry-Wide Impact and Expansion
The project sets a new standard in the textile industry. It tackles issues like supply chain fraud and unverifiable sustainability. The goal is real-time transparency and easy data sharing. OEKO-TEX and TextileGenesis want to create a future with trusted, clear textile certifications.
Key Data Points:
- 381% YOY growth in OEKO-TEX organic cotton certifications by end of 2025
- Pilot involved 11 supply chain actors and 24 digital certificates
- Digital tokenization now replaces paper-based Transaction Certificates
By digitizing certification, OEKO-TEX and TextileGenesis build a more sustainable and trusted future for organic cotton. This fabric becomes a key part of the textile industry’s environmental goals.
