OEKO-TEX® Partners with TextileGenesis to Enhance Digital Traceability for Organic Cotton
Organic Cotton Demand Spurs Need for Fraud-Resistant Certification
Organic cotton gains value in global textiles. Its demand drives OEKO-TEX® ORGANIC COTTON certification to jump 381% year-over-year through end-2025. This rapid rise calls for strong, tamper-resistant certification systems. These systems must verify sustainability claims in supply chains that grow more complex by the day.
Digitizing Certification with TextileGenesis’ Fibercoin™ Technology
OEKO-TEX® now works with TextileGenesis, a Lectra company. They digitize Transaction Certificates in organic cotton supply chains. This work links OEKO-TEX® certification know‐how with TextileGenesis’ Fibercoin™. Fibercoin™ creates a unique digital token for each physical cotton shipment.
Key benefits include:
- Tamper-resistant, transparent traceability from fiber to final product
- Elimination of paper-based certificates
- Reduced administrative work for ginners, spinners, manufacturers, and brands
- Enhanced integrity and scalability of organic cotton certification
Established Testing Meets Advanced Digital Traceability
OEKO-TEX® tests raw fiber and yarn against strict organic standards. It uses in-house GMO testing done by 17 international institutes. The digital Transaction Certificates secure the supply chain from start to finish.
Dr. Alfred J. Beerli, OEKO-TEX® CEO, says this digital change strengthens certification and boosts efficiency. He sees it as a basic step toward expanding to other OEKO-TEX® product groups.
Successful Pilot Validates Industry Adoption
Between March and August 2025, a pilot project tracked certified organic cotton in India and Bangladesh. Eleven actors in the supply chain joined, and 19 certified transactions were validated digitally.
One supplier said:
“TextileGenesis has made traceability easier and reduced manual effort… pointing toward a simpler and more sustainable certification process.” – KKP Spinning Mills Pvt. Ltd.
Feedback from Milan Ginning Pressing Limited and Atlas Export Enterprises also noted better compliance and trust along the supply chain.
Future Outlook: Scaling Digital Certification Across Textiles
Buoyed by success, OEKO-TEX® and TextileGenesis will expand digital Transaction Certificates in more organic cotton supply chains. Dr. Beerli expects real-time transparency and smooth data flow to define future certification standards. He aims to lead the industry in innovation.
