OEKO-TEX® Partners with TextileGenesis to Digitize Organic Cotton Traceability
Organic cotton grows in value. Its role in textiles rises. Buyers need clear, trusted supply chains. OEKO-TEX® ORGANIC COTTON certification grew by 381% year-over-year by end-2025. This jump proves that strong, fraud-resistant checks matter.
Advancing Digital Traceability with TextileGenesis
OEKO-TEX® joins with TextileGenesis, a company of Lectra, to bring new life to organic cotton checks. They blend OEKO-TEX®’s strict testing with TextileGenesis’ digital traceability platform. This mix creates a single, clear system for organic cotton flows.
The project moves Transaction Certificates from paper to a digital format. It links physical shipments and digital records in one spot.
Fibercoin™ Technology: Securing the Chain of Custody
TextileGenesis uses its Fibercoin™ token system to mark each cotton shipment. Each token sits in a closed loop system. This method gives:
• A clear, tamper-proof trail from fibre to finished cloth
• Fewer admin tasks for ginners, spinners, makers, and brands
• A stronger check for claims of sustainability
Built on Established Testing and Sustainability Standards
OEKO-TEX® checks organic claims with in-house GMO tests. It works with 17 global institutes to track cotton from raw fibre to yarn. This work marks an important step in OEKO-TEX®’s plan to use digital tools.
Dr. Alfred J. Beerli, OEKO-TEX® CEO, says, “This collaboration is a natural next step to strengthen the integrity of OEKO-TEX® through secure, transparent, and data-driven processes.” He sees the digital model growing beyond organic cotton to include other products.
Successful Pilot and Industry Reception
In a pilot from March to August 2025, the team tracked cotton in India and Bangladesh. Eleven partners took part. They handled 24 certificates and 19 certified deals. Feedback showed:
• Easier management of traceability
• Less manual labor for staff
• Greater trust and tighter compliance across the chain
Companies like KKP Spinning Mills and Milan Ginning Pressing Limited praised the project for boosting both clarity and sustainability.
Future Outlook: Scaling Digital Certifications
After the pilot, OEKO-TEX® and TextileGenesis work to grow the platform. They plan wider use in organic cotton chains. In the future, digital platforms will support real-time traceability and smooth data flow.
Dr. Beerli states, “Our ambition is to actively shape future-ready certification standards while keeping pace with industry evolution.”
