OEKO-TEX Partners with TextileGenesis to Digitise Organic Cotton Traceability
Rising Demand for Organic Cotton Verification
OEKO-TEX leads textile certification. It joins with TextileGenesis. They digitise Transaction Certificates for organic cotton. They work after a 381% jump in yearly certifications. This growth shows organic cotton’s key role in textiles. Brands, regulators, and buyers ask for clear, verifiable sustainability. They need proof that connects easily.
Leveraging Fibercoin Technology for Fraud-Resistant Traceability
The team uses TextileGenesis’ Fibercoin technology. It is a digital token system. Each shipment links to a unique token. The token lives in a closed, secure loop. This system drops paper and avoids tampering. It keeps supply chain steps close and clear. Ginners, spinners, manufacturers, and brands now work with less strain.
Enhancing Certification Integrity and Scalability
OEKO-TEX brings its organic cotton skills. It runs strict GMO tests in 17 labs around the world. It checks raw fibre and yarn carefully. TextileGenesis provides a digital traceability platform. The platform ties physical moves to certification data. It forms one full, unified system. Dr. Alfred J. Beerli, OEKO-TEX CEO, calls this move a key step. It makes certification safer, clearer, and more efficient. The pilot sets the stage for more digital certifications soon.
Successful Pilot Across Indian and Bangladeshi Supply Chains
The pilot ran from March to August 2025. Eleven supply chain participants joined the test. They issued 24 digital certificates. Nineteen transactions were tracked and validated. The pilot took place in India and Bangladesh. Participants, like KKP Spinning Mills Pvt. Ltd., found the system more transparent. They saw easier traceability, less manual work, and stronger trust in the chain.
Future Outlook: Scaling and Industry Impact
After a successful pilot, plans will expand the platform. The goal is to widen digital Transaction Certificates. The target is more organic cotton supply chains worldwide. Dr. Beerli stresses that real-time clarity is key. He adds that systems must work well together. OEKO-TEX is set to lead next-generation digital sustainability in textiles.
