Overview
On April 16, 2025, the European Commission launched the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Working Plan 2025–2030. The Commission picked key product groups. It set clear policy aims for the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). This plan makes sustainable design standard in the EU. Soon, the ESPR will add Delegated Acts. These acts focus on making products last, easy to repair, and simple to recycle.
Introducing the Readiness Assessment Tool
WBCSD and ERM made a new tool to help companies. The tool is an Excel spreadsheet. It helps users check if they have the product data that the ESPR needs. It helps teams spot missing data. It also drives them to act before the rule and Digital Product Passport (DPP) start.
Key Features:
- It splits ESPR Articles 6 and 7. These articles set performance and information rules.
- It reviews parts of a product as detailed in Article 5(1) and looks at all lifecycle stages.
- It has a guided interface. Users enter data and get a quick readiness score.
- Soon, it may let users filter by product group as the ESPR Delegated Acts change.
How This Supports Circular Economy Goals
WBCSD builds on this with the Circularity Data Exchange (CDX). This plan helps share data for a circular economy. CDX supports ESPR needs and boosts broader sustainability goals.
