The DERTOUR Group, part of the REWE Group, now introduces a new labelling system. It is called “engage – people & planet”. This labelling links travel products with care for both people and the planet. DERTOUR, ITS, and Meiers Weltreisen use it. It helps buyers choose eco-friendly trips and sets a standard for green travel options.
Two-Tier Labelling System for Sustainable Travel
-
Dark Green Leaf (Heart-Shaped Icon):
This icon marks hotels that meet international standards under the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). Today around 1,800 hotels in DERTOUR’s catalog and on platforms like booking.com carry this mark. -
Light Green Leaf (Heart Outline):
This icon marks excursions and round trips. They pass simple, internal audit tests even if they do not have external certification.
DERTOUR works with Fairweg, a portal that finds GSTC-certified hotels around the world. This close work builds a clear database. Data then flows into DERTOUR’s booking portal using the StayFair logo.
Goals and Future Plans
- Standardization: DERTOUR will use this label in all its global units. The plan builds a single, unified brand for sustainable travel.
- Certification Target: DERTOUR aims for 25% of hotels in its core portfolio to be GSTC-certified by 2025.
- DERTOUR also educates buyers with online tools in its ‘Conscious travelling’ section. This space offers simple tips and guides for eco-friendly journeys.
Expert Insight: Laura Steden, Director Corporate Responsibility at DERTOUR Group
Laura Steden explains the need for an umbrella label. Today, more than a hundred tourism seals fill the market. Many seals confuse buyers with unclear rules. The “engage” label cuts through the clutter. It links products to strict ecological, social, and economic checks. These checks come from either hard external verification or careful internal auditing.
Steden adds that “engage” helps travelers pick responsible hotels and trips. It also urges tourism partners to adopt greener practices. This clear, close connection between ideas shows DERTOUR’s strong commitment to sustainable tourism.
