Organic Cotton Authentication Undergoes Digital Transformation at Oeko-Tex
Published January 27, 2026 – Home Textiles Today
Demand for organic cotton grows fast. Oeko-Tex now works with TextileGenesis. This change brings a digital method to verify organic cotton. Oeko-Tex uses a new system. The system links each step closely. It cuts down on paper use. It makes the data clear. It helps stop fraud in supply chains.
Rapid Growth in Organic Cotton Certifications
Oeko-Tex began organic cotton certification in 2023. In 2025, the figures jumped by 381%. The rise shows that industries and buyers value sustainable textiles.
Moving from Paper to Digital: The TextileGenesis Platform
The plan now drops physical Transaction Certificates. TextileGenesis uses Fibercoin technology. This technology makes a digital record that binds data and verification steps. Each new digital link stays close to the last. This closeness helps everyone trust the certs.
Pilot Project and Supply Chain Impact
A pilot project started in early 2025. It checked select supply chains in India and Bangladesh. The pilot covered ginning, spinning mills, fabric makers, and testing labs. It showed that the system can reduce paperwork quickly. It can also cut fraud risk. The project makes it easier to check organic claims.
Future Expansion Plans
Oeko-Tex CEO Dr. Alfred J. Beerli said the pilot works well. He sees a future that adds more digital checks. The plan may grow to cover other Oeko-Tex certifications and products. The idea will spread transparency and eco-friendly practices.
Why This Matters for Sustainable Textile Markets
- Enhanced Trust: A digital system links every step that proves an item is organic.
- Streamlined Operations: Supply chain workers now use fewer paper documents.
- Scalable Model: The plan can grow to other textiles and regions.
This paperless change is a strong step toward combining green standards with new digital tools. It shows the textile world can use simple, clear links to guarantee transparency, traceability, and fraud-proof certification.
