Surge in Oeko-Tex Organic Cotton Certifications
Oeko-Tex is an international textile certifier. It launched its organic cotton certification in 2023. In 2025, the number of these certifications grew by 381%. Global textile supply chains now seek the certification.
Digital Transformation of Transaction Certificates
Oeko-Tex works with TextileGenesis, a traceability platform owned by Lectra. The platform serves the fashion and textile industries. Together, they digitize Transaction Certificates for organic cotton. They replace old paper and PDF certificates with a secure digital system.
- Pilot Project: A pilot started in early 2025. It covers supply chains (ginning, spinning, fabric mills, testing centers) in India and Bangladesh.
- Technology: The system uses TextileGenesis’ Fibercoin technology. This tool builds a digital chain of custody.
- Benefits: The new system speeds the check of organic cotton claims. It also manages certified material flows in a reliable way.
Strategic Vision for Expansion
Dr. Alfred J. Beerli is the CEO of Oeko-Tex. He said the project begins with organic cotton. Soon, it will cover more certifications and products. This change will push the industry toward paperless traceability.
Industry Impact and Future Outlook
The platform links physical goods and certification data on one system. This link makes it easier to check the origin of organic cotton. It also shows the quality and integrity of raw materials. The new approach meets industry needs for clear, efficient, and trusted sustainability.
For textile brands, manufacturers, and retailers, this digital change is a major step. It helps them verify organic cotton supply chains in a trustworthy and eco-friendly way.
