Unlocking Sustainable Fashion: OEKO-TEX Partners with TextileGenesis to Revolutionize Organic Cotton Traceability

OEKO-TEX and TextileGenesis Collaborate to Digitize Organic Cotton Traceability

OEKO-TEX, a leading certification authority, has joined forces with TextileGenesis, a Lectra company. They work together to digitize Transaction Certificates for organic cotton. This step comes after a 381% year-over-year rise in OEKO-TEX ORGANIC COTTON certification volumes as of December 2025. The partners meet an urgent need: they build a traceability system that is both credible and fraud-resistant for organic cotton supply chains.

Digital Chain of Custody with Fibercoin Technology

TextileGenesis uses its Fibercoin technology to create a secure digital link. The system replaces paper records by attaching each physical shipment of organic cotton to a unique digital token. This token resists tampering from the fiber stage to finished products. The process eases the administrative tasks for ginners, spinners, manufacturers, and brands.

Enhancing Certification Integrity and Efficiency

OEKO-TEX brings its solid testing methods, including exclusive GMO tests at 17 international institutes, into the mix. TextileGenesis adds its digital traceability system. Together, they tighten and speed up the verification process along the supply chain. Dr. Alfred J. Beerli, OEKO-TEX CEO, says the digital system improves certification efficiency and scales well during the rapid rise in organic cotton demand.

Successful Pilot in India and Bangladesh

A pilot project ran from March to August 2025. It traced several certified organic cotton supply chains in India and Bangladesh. Eleven supply chain actors joined, and they validated 19 certified transactions. The project brought higher transparency, easier management, less manual work, and more trust in the certification steps.

Future Outlook: Scaling Digital Certification

With the pilot’s success confirmed, OEKO-TEX and TextileGenesis plan to extend the digital certification model. They aim to include more organic cotton supply chains and eventually cover other OEKO-TEX certifications. This forward-looking approach embeds real-time transparency and interoperability into textile certification standards—a key step to sustain consumer trust and meet high sustainability goals.
